Day #3……..I tried (so hard)……oh heyyy Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

1.  Consumption - What did you consume today?

Please make a list for your usage of the following substances

Water – 3 camelbak refills, 4 minute shower, flushed toilet, washed hands, brushed teeth

Food –fruit salad, chicken, rice, lettuce, tomato, cheese, bread

Electricity – no heat, no computer or TV until 10. No lights on until 9:45 (not home)

Gasoline – drove to my grandmother’s (10 miles)

$$Money$$ - none….wah

2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?

I  didn’t use my ipod today.  I didn’t use my phone because I left it at home.  I only took a FOUR minute shower! Yay for me!  I used public transportation.  I barely used any electricity….(yay for me x2)  I used reusable tupperware instead of bringing a plastic bag for my lunchy.

3.  Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term?  Can you reduce your consumption permanently?  Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.

The 4 minute shower was a little too fast for me other than that I’m down with reducing my water consumption (except drinking water….cause I’m a fiend for water).  I’m going to take public transportation a lot more often.  I won’t use the computer or TV as much.  If this temp keeps up…I’ll continue to leave my heat off…but if it doesn’t then I’ll leave it at 65.

4.  Following - What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers?  Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way?  Will you adjust your own actions because of this?

A lot of people have said that they have cut down on their computer time and only use it for homework.  I’ve been trying to do the same thing…..but I could probably cut down more on my social networking sites like other people.  So, I’ll do that from now on.  Thanks, friends! -_______-

Day #2 WAHH

1.  Consumption - What did you consume today?

Water- 3 glasses of water,1 water bottle (I’m so ashamed), 15 minute shower, toilet flushed, brushed teeth x2, washed hands

Food- bread, cheese, chips, 2 apples, orange, banana, trail mix, meat, rice, carrots

Electricity- No computer until 4:30 for 5 minutes then not again until 10ish, no lights on until 9:30, no TV until 10

Gasoline (fossil fuels)- none

$$Money$$ - None…………I still don’t have any money……..

2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?

Well, because today was gorg I didn’t use any heat.  Instead of driving to school I took the train both to and from school.  Except I thought I was cute and left home 5 minutes later than I should have so I was late (hence the WAHH). Instead of driving or taking the bus to my house, I walked home.  I only took a 15 minute shower instead of my usual 30 minute shower.  I got home later than usual so I didn’t use very much electricity in my house.  I didn’t spend any money wah.

3.  Sustainability

The 15 minute shower was perf.  I didn’t really miss those other 15 minutes.  So, from now on I’ll probably just take 15 minutes or less in the shower from now on.  Not really a fan of taking the train to school because I had to get up and hour and a half earlier and ended up being late.  So maybe I’ll carpool (or have Maritza drive me).  I like taking the train home so I’ll continue doing that.  I will probably continue to reduce my usage the computer and TV along with other forms of electricity.

4.  What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers?

While reading everyone else’s posts I noticed that we are all coming to one conclusion: reducing your consumption isn’t very hard.  If we just walk those 5 minutes home instead of driving, spending a few less minutes in the shower, or shutting off a light when you leave a room, we can make a HUGE difference. Before this assignment I thought I couldn’t live without my phone or my long showers but now, I’m finding that I’m just fine without them.  I think we’re all realizing that.

Day #1 WAH

1.  Consumption - What did you consume today?

Water- at least 3-4 water bottles (don’t judge…I refill one camelbak), one 5 minute shower (WAH), and any hand washing/tooth brushing/sink activity so probably at least 3 times at the sink…so whatever water usage went on then. And of course, I flushed the toilet.

Food- 2 eggys, toast, banana, orange, strawberries, pasta, tomato sauce, and asian chicken fingers

Electricity- No computer until 8ish. Didn’t charge my phone today (WAHHH). I put my heat down to 65. I tried to use what was only necessary in terms of lights (shutting off lights when I left a room, had the lights on dim, etc.)

Gasoline- Personally I used none.  My cousin and I drove to my grandmother’s house so like 10 miles.

$$Money$$ - None. I don’t have any money to spend………awk.

2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?

I usually take a 30 minute shower and today I only took 5 minutes and didn’t wash my hair (which made it even more of a hot mess).  I cut down on my computer time, heat, I didn’t use my phone as much because I wanted to conserve the little battery, and lights.  I usually use listen to my ipod at least once a day and I didn’t do that.

3.  Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term?  Can you reduce your consumption permanently?  Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.

I thought that this first day was going to be harder than it actually was.  My main area of focus today was electricity and I must say that I didn’t really miss it.  I didn’t even think my phone would last.  Turning my heat down from 72 to 65 I will definitely do from now on.  Putting on a sweater and using a blanket is so easy.  Giving up the computer was pretty easy too.  So, I’ll probably cut back on that too.  The shower, not so much.  Maybe I could cut down my time a little to 20 minutes or less.  The phone wasn’t all that hard either.  From now on I could only use my phone when I actually need it rather than just as a nervous habit. Overall, good and surprising day.
